As many go back to school this September, we continue the Peoples School as well, with 4 classes for this month, including 2 PCUSA presentations and 2 classes on history.
First class is a presentation from the Animal Rights Commission of the Party of Communists called “Why Animal Rights?” It will focus on a dialectical view of the animal rights question rather than a moral one, will seek to explain how speciesism is a form of chauvinism and how reality changes and as Marxists, we must attune our understanding of the world to its changing reality. This class will be Tuesday, September 5th, from 8 pm EST – 9:30 pm EST and Thursday, September 7th, from 9 pm EST – 10:30 pm EST. There will also be a public staff meeting that Thursday at 8 pm EST prior to the class that night.
Secondly, we will cover the 50th Anniversary of the Chilean Coup of September 11th, 1973. This is a crucial moment in not just Latin American history or Chilean history, but in the history of U.S. Imperialism and history of fascism as well. This “other September 11th” is often forgotten due to the events of 9/11/01, but we as Marxist-Leninists will continue to bring this coup to light and explore the history of the fascist coup against the government of Salvador Allende. This class will be Tuesday, September 12th, from 8 pm EST – 9:30 pm EST and Thursday, September 14th, from 9 pm EST – 10:30 pm EST.
Then, we will continue where we left off in our series on the History of U.S. Imperialism, with a class on the “Height of the Cold War” from about 1960-1975. This will of course cover the U.S. invasion of Vietnam and the multiple episodes of aggression towards Cuba, but will also touch on other military interventions, political events and imperialist developments at home and abroad during this era. This will be the 2nd of 3 classes on the Cold War era, as we will touch on the “End of the Cold War” (1975-1991) in October. This class will be Tuesday, September 19th, from 8 pm EST – 9:30 pm EST and Thursday, September 21st, from 9 pm EST – 10:30 pm EST.
Lastly, we will have a class on the Party of Communists USA and the Peoples School for Marxist-Leninist Studies themselves at the end of September! This will be a fantastic class for newcomers and those interested in the party and the school. We’ll cover the history of both of our organizations, cover some of the party program and 8 points of unity and promote our activities for comrades to support the various things we are doing and get involved! This class will be Tuesday, September 26th, from 8 pm EST – 9:30 pm EST and Thursday, September 28th, from 9 pm EST – 10:30 pm EST.
