September 11th, 2023 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Chilean Coup of 1973, in which the Popular Unity Government was overthrown by the Chilean Armed Forces led by the fascist dictator Augusto Pinochet, and Salvador Allende was assassinated. We will mark this anniversary by learning about the background of what was happening in Latin America in the late ’60s and early ’70s, learning about the coup itself and the suffering of Chile under the US-backed military junta of Pinochet. We also pay respect to September 11th, 2001, and the tragedy that mostly working class Americans faced at the hands of other once US-backed forces from another place, and you can find the class we did last year, which touched upon that a little bit, on Afghanistan here. Class is Tuesday, September 12th at 8:00 EST and Thursday, September 14th at 9:00 EST.
If you’re new to PSMLS, the school provides free public collective education every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays on a variety of topics from a Marxist-Leninist perspective. You don’t have to be a member of anything or identify as any certain ideology to attend. The PSMLS is a Party of Communists USA initiated and sponsored school, but it is not a party school, which is great because it allows for a wide variety of different perspectives and opinions to be brought forth which don’t necessarily reflect the party line.
